The final day of the NBA regular season sees a Texas rivalry when the Dallas Mavericks host the San Antonio Spurs at the American Airlines Arena. The Mavericks currently sit fourth in the Western Conference with a record of 51-30 and still hold a chance of catching the Golden State Warriors in the third seed who lead them by just a game. The Spurs, on the other hand, have their position in the standings secured with a record of 34-37 that will see them qualify for the NBA’s play-in tournament as they seek to grab the last available playoff spot. The Mavs are coming off a massive 50 point demolition against the tanking Portland Trail Blazers in a 128-78 win while the Spurs fell to the Golden State Warriors 100-94 in their last game.

With the Spurs 10th seed position already decided, head coach Greg Popovich could very well elect to rest a number of regular starters for this matchup with the NBA play-in game scheduled to take place just three days after this one. The Mavericks would need to beat the Spurs and have the Warriors lose in their game against the Pelicans if they are to leapfrog Golden State to the third seed. Dallas head coach Jason Kidd could err on the side of caution here and rest some of his key players, although we are much more likely to see a full strength Mavs team than we are a full strength Spurs team. Even disregarding the situational spot of the two teams, the Mavs are the much better side and shouldn’t have too much trouble securing the win here as they look tot head into the playoffs with their winning streak intact.
