Group A of the preliminary round of the 2025 Men's World Handball Championships sees the Czech Republic face Switzerland. Also in this group are Germany and Poland with the top three going into the main round. Here's our match prediction.
The Czechs are taking part in these championships for the first time since 2015. On that occasion they finished in 17th place and have only finished in the top ten twice in 1995 and 2005. Last year saw them knocked out in the preliminary round of the Euros with one win and two defeats.
They recently lost friendlies to France and Portugal but before that had won three in a row against Romania, Luxembourg and Belgium, all by a winning margin of at least six goals.
Switzerland last took part in these championship finals four years ago and finished 16th. That was their first appearance in the World Championships since 1995 when they got to the quarter-finals.
In 2023, they had a disappointing Euros and were beaten in the preliminary round, drawing one game and losing the two others. They had gone four games without a win before winning friendlies against Kosovo and the Netherlands this month.

Switzerland have a tough match in their opening Group A fixture. They are the country likely to finish fourth in the group and be transferred to the President's Cup rather than qualifying for the Main Round. A win here would change all those calculations.
They did win ther last two friendlies but have only won three of their last 11 matches. The Czech Republic finished higher than them in last year's European Championships and will be up for this match, their first in the finals for ten years.
