Our predictions for track cycling at the 2024 Olympics
Track cycling is one of the most popular disciplines at the Olympic Games. Here are our predictions for the main events scheduled to take place in France in 2024.
Our prediction for the individual sprint
The men's individual sprint event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will see 30 cyclists battle it out for victory on the track at the Vélodrome National de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines.
The defending champion, Harrie Lavreysen (Netherlands), is the logical favourite for this event. The formidable Dutch sprinter, renowned for his power and impeccable race strategy, has won gold at the last 5 world championships and should be able to shine again, as he did in Tokyo (2 gold medals and a bronze). At least that's what our track cycling specialists think! Our winner prediction of the individual sprint: Harrie Lavreysen, gold medal!
Odds for individual sprint winner:
- Harrie Lavreysen - 1.44
- Matthew Richardson - 7.00
- Matthew Glaetzer - 8.00

Our prediction for the team sprint
Can the French improve on their bronze medal in the team sprint at the last Olympics? Florian Grengbo, Sébastien Vigier and Rayan Helal are back to try and win another medal for Les Bleus.
Harrie Lavreysen and Team Netherlands will undoubtedly be a tough nut to crack, as they hold the Olympic record in this discipline. Masters of the exercise, the Dutch should almost undoubtedly go home with gold again this year, and we expect France to finish in the top 3. Australia and Great Britain are our favourites to complete the podium.
Men's Team Sprint results
We're glad to report that our prediction of a gold medal for the Netherlands was correct! The Oranje set a new world record time of 40.949 as they finish atop the podium, while Great Britain and Australia claim the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
Men's Team Sprint ranking:
- Netherlands - Gold
- Great Britain - Silver
- Australia - Bronze

Our prediction for the team pursuit
The team pursuit at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games pits 10 teams against each other at the Vélodrome National de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. Each team of 4 cyclists must achieve the best possible time over 16 laps of the track, with the final time being determined by the third cyclist to cross the finish line. Duels are then organised between the teams according to their ranking in the first event to decide between them.
Filippo Ganna's Italy will have their title on the line and are once again one of the favourite nations. Denmark, who finished second in Tokyo and won the 2023 World Championships in Glasgow ahead of Italy, will be the main threat to the holders of the title. Behind them, Great Britain, New Zealand and Australia are also genuine contenders.
Men's Team Pursuit results
Despite coming into the event as roughly 12-1 underdogs, Australia came up with a fantastic race to claim the gold medal. Their time of 3:42.067 was enough to edge them by the much more fancied Great Britain team who won silver with a time of 03:44.394.
Men's Team Pursuit ranking:
- Australia - Gold
- Great Britain - Silver
- Italy - Bronze

Our prediction for the Keirin
The Keirin competition at the Olympics promises to be very open, with 30 top-level participants all vying for glory. The defending champion, Jason Kenny, has now retired and a new generation of cyclists are taking over.
The principle of this competition is quite simple. The cyclists must first follow a bike called Derny, which gradually increases its speed before leaving the track. The participants, up to 7 per race, then sprint the last 600 to 700 metres to try and cross the finish line first.
Among the favourites for the gold medal is the 2023 keirin world champion Kevin Quintero. Harrie Lavreysen, multiple world champion, is also very comfortable in this discipline and it would be no surprise to see him win a medal, along with his compatriot Jeffrey Hoogland. A great battle is shaping up between these 3 machines. Our winner prediction of the Keirin: Harrie Lavreysen gold medal!
Odds for Keirin winner:
- Harrie Lavreysen - 1.35
- Jack Carlin - 7.50
- Matthew Richardson - 8.00
- Kaiya Ota - 9.00
- Matthew Glaetzer - 17.00
- Jeffrey Hoogland - 21.00
- Mikhail Iakovlev - 21.00
- Mohd Azizulhasni Awang - 23.00
- Mateusz Rudyk - 34.00
- Hamish Turnbull - 34.00
- Sam Dakin - 41.00
- Sebastian Vigier - 51.00
- Nicholas Paul - 51.00

Our prediction for the Omnium
Another very open competition is the Omnium. This discipline is made up of four distinct races: the scratch race (classic race), the tempo race (race with points awarded for each lap), the elimination race (the last rider every 2 laps is eliminated) and the points race, where riders earn points for each sprint held.
Among the favourites for the gold medal are the experienced Aaron Gate (New Zealand), young talent Dylan Bibic (Canada), double Omnium world champion Ethan Hayter (Great Britain), and the French Benjamin Thomas, who was the Omnium world champion in 2017 and 2020, and is also known for his success on the road, such as his victory on stage 5 of the Giro d'Italia 2024.
Men's Omnium results
The home fans were all cheers in the Men's Omnium event as Benjamin Thomas took home the gold medal. The French rider's total of 164 points was enough to beat out Portugal's Iuri Leitao who came in second with 153 and Belgium's Fabio Van den Bossche who came in third with 131 points.
Men's Omnium ranking:
- Benjamin Thomas (France) - Gold
- Iuri Leitao (Portugal) - Silver
- Fabio Van den Bossche (Belgium) - Bronze

The Madison, or American-style race, is a team relay event (in pairs). 16 teams and 32 riders take part, covering 200 laps (50 km). Points are awarded in sprints every 10 laps for the top 4 finishers. In terms of favourites for the Madison at the 2024 Olympics, the Netherlands, France, Great Britain and Denmark are the main contenders for gold. Our winner prediction of the Madison: Great Britain for the gold!

Our predictions for road cycling at the 2024 Olympics
Road cycling is the other main cycling discipline at the Summer Olympics. Below are our predictions for the road events at the 2024 Games in France.
Our prediction for the individual time trial
The first event and first final in the discipline, the individual time trial at the 2024 Olympic Games, starts at Les Invalides and finishes at the Alexandre III bridge, passing over the Pont de Sully, the Place de la Bastille and the Bois de Vincennes on its formidable course of around 32 kilometres. It's an event that appeals to time-trial specialists such as Primoz Roglic, Remco Evenepoel, Filippo Ganna and Joshua Tarling.
Of course, Olympic champion and Dauphiné winner Primoz Roglic is likely to be a frontrunner in this time trial, as is Italy's Filippo Ganna. Our cycling experts are leaning towards the latter for overall victory this year, as he has already beaten big names such as Tadej Pogacar in a time trial at the Giro 2024. Our prediction for the 2024 Olympic Games individual time trial: Filippo Ganna wins!
Men's Time Trial results
The results for the men's individual time trail event are in and it's Remco Evenepoel who claims the gold medal! The Belgian cyclist put up a time of 36:12.16 to finish ahead of Filippo Ganna and Wout Van Aert who would claim the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
Men's Time Trial ranking:
- Remco Evenepoel (Belgium) - Gold
- Filippo Ganna (Italy) - Silver
- Wout Van Aert (Belgium) - Bronze

Our prediction for the road race
Another interesting part of road cycling at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is the road race. The men's final takes place on Saturday, August 3, with a finish on the classic avenue des Champs-Élysées. The race covers a total distance of 273 kilometres, with 90 riders taking part. After Richard Carapaz's victory on the roads of Tokyo, there are plenty of people in with a chance of succeeding the Ecuadorian this year.
Of course, the Netherlands have a good chance of taking gold in this event thanks to their strongman, Mathieu van der Poel, road world champion in 2023. But he still has to beat off competition from other favourites such as Mads Pedersen and his great rival Wout Van Aert. Given his exceptional form and skills on this style of race, the winner of the 2024 editions of Milan-San Remo and Paris-Roubaix is the favourite for your bets. Our road race prediction for the 2024 Olympics: victory for Mathieu van der Poel!
Men's Road Race results
A brilliant 2024 Olympics continued for Remco Evenepoel as he would go on to claim the gold medal in the men's road race event as well. The Belgian made history, becoming the first cyclist to win gold in both the individual time trial and the road race in the same Olympic Games.
Men's Road Race ranking:
- Remco Evenepoel (Belgium) - Gold
- Valentin Madouas (France) - Silver
- Christophe Laporte (France) - Bronze

2024 Olympic Games: how to make good cycling predictions?
There are a few factors to consider when it comes to betting on cycling at the Summer Olympics. Here are five expert tips to maximise your chances of success at the Paris 2024 Olympics:
- Study the race route in detail
- Analyse the season's performances of cyclists taking part in the Olympics
- Keep up to date with the latest cycling news from the Olympic Games
- Sign up with several bookmakers to play the best odds
Of course, these are not the only tips to apply when betting on cycling at the Olympic Games, but they are certainly the most important. Find out more about them below.
Study the race route in detail
As you may have realised, the range of cycling competitions contested at the Olympics is truly comprehensive, and some riders excel on the track, while others specialise in the road. Filippo Ganna, for example, is a genuine time-trial specialist, with a great deal of speed. However, he has experienced difficulty on the mountain stages.
Analysing the course and race conditions should be your first task when preparing to bet on an Olympic Games cycling event. How many kilometres does the race cover? Is it more suited to sprinters, climbers, backpackers or time-trial specialists? These are all questions you need to ask yourself when betting on road cycling.
As for track cycling, which is perhaps less well known to the general public, remember to find out about the format of each event, and try to identify the specific features of each one. This will help you spot opportunities when they arise and avoid certain pitfalls.
Analyse the season's performances of the cyclists taking part in the Olympics
The second piece of advice, which will help you choose your bets from among a number of internationally renowned athletes, is to pay attention to the performances of the cyclists across the season. As we know, every rider has peaks and troughs of form.
For example, if you find that Mads Pedersen is performing well below his usual level this season, then you should avoid betting on him to win at the 2024 Olympic Games, even if his skills on the road no longer need to be proven.
A change of team can completely change the role and results of certain riders in the major races, so make sure you identify the riders who are most in form this year.
Keep up to date with the latest cycling news from the Olympic Games
Another important point, which applies to every cycling race at the 2024 Olympic Games: keep up to date with the latest cycling news. There's no need to jump on a rider in advance and waiting for the latest news can help you to place better bets on the race of your choice.
As an example, if a cyclist announces before the race that he is a little ill, he won't be 100% fit for the race, so it's better to opt for another name, to avoid any unnecessary losses.
Sign up with several bookmakers to play the best odds
Our final piece of advice is to have an account with several bookmakers. By registering with several operators, you have the luxury of choosing the most attractive odds in the market, therefore allowing you a chance at the highest winnings possible!
To help you do this, our ranking of the best sports betting sites for the Olympic Games will be very useful, as it details the best offers and welcome bonuses, particularly for cycling enthusiasts. Now you know how to maximise your winnings during the 2024 Olympics!
Bet on Olympic Games 2024What not to do when making your Olympic cycling predictions
If you want to make the best cycling predictions at the Olympic Games, there are a few mistakes you should avoid at all costs. These include the following, for example:
- Betting headlong on the favourite for the event at the 2024 Olympics
- Ignoring the Olympic Games format
- Neglecting the qualifying races and previous rounds
- Ignoring the fatigue of certain riders
- Betting on the big names without any real analysis
- Ignoring the psychological aspect
- Ignoring cyclists' track records
You now have all the keys you need to unlock big winnings at the 2024 Olympic Cycling Games. Just remember to manage your bets carefully and avoid overindulging during the competition!
