Slovenia top Pool B after winning their first three matches. They bid for a fourth victory when taking on Croatia who are in second place but a point behind them.  However, Slovenia have only played three matches and Croatia, four. Slovenia will be expecting to get a fourth straight win as they are currently ranked eighth in the world and that's 16 places ahead of their opponents. They have achieved their 100% record after three matches with the loss of just one set in this tournament. Their opening match was the one in which that set was lost and it was the first set they played against Ukraine. It was tight in the second but they won that 25-22 to level the scores. That put them in command and the third and fourth sets were both won 25-20. Up next for them were Finland and they won that match in straight sets. Their impressive start to these European Championships continued with a comfortable win over Spain. The first set was won 25-19 but the next two were won 25-15 to give them their third successive win.

Croatia reached the last 16 of these championships four years ago. They came into this 2023 tournament in good form having had wins over the Czech Republic and Denmark. The Croatians needed those wins as they'd lost five of their previous matches in the Golden European League. Their 2023 Men's European Volleyball Championship campaign began with a disappointing 3-0 loss to Finland who have lost their three subsequent matches in this pool. Croatia then found themselves two sets to one down to Ukraine but rallied to win 3-2. They followed that up with a 3-0 win over Spain and on Sunday defeated Bulgaria 3-1 after losing the first set.
