Sara Errani is a former US Open semi-finalist but has never progressed to the second week of competing here in 10 years. She also hasn’t won a main draw match here since 2015. In her current form, this long wait could extend.

The former French Open finalist arrives at Flushing Meadows having lost her last five fixtures. She was defeated in the first round of qualifying in Cincinnati in her last outing. This unwanted run has seen her record drop to 24-18 and out of the WTA top 90.

A former world number five, she starts the week 96th in the live ranking. The Italian will want to look at her win against Bucsa in 2022 for inspiration. In the aftermath of that victory, she went on to win the Contrexeville Challenger.
