Fourth seed Cori Gauff will meet 15th seed Paula Badosa in the semi-finals of the China Open. This Saturday match will be their second in 2024 and we have the prediction.

The winner will play Mirra Andreeva, Qinwen Zheng, Aryna Sabalenka or Karolina Muchova in the final.

This match marks Gauff’s sixth semi-final of the year though she has found more adversity in this round, reaching the final just once. That was at the start of the season in Auckland, a tournament she won.

Gauff also lost in this very round on her debut here last season. A lot will be going through the 20-year-old's mind for this match.

Gauff defeated Yuliia Starodubtseva 2-1 to set up this clash. It was the second successive match that the world number six had relinquished a set.

Paula Badosa has been more decisive in her run to the semis. She won all her matches in straight sets and is one of three players with an unblemished record so far in Beijing.

The Spaniard, who saw off second seed Jessica Pegula in the fourth round, defeated surprise package Zhang Shuai in the quarters. Her 23rd win of the season on hard courts improved her record to 34-19.

Badosa has played two semis so far this year. She won in Washington on her way to the title but lost in Cincinnati to Pegula.

Badosa's form these last two weeks has seen her claw her way up the WTA standings. She is now 15th in the live ranking, her best since placing 11th at the start of the 2023 season.

The former world number two has claimed two wins against Gauff on hard courts.
