Cori Gauff extended her current winning run to six matches with victory in the second round to begin her Wuhan campaign. The American, who is fresh from winning the title in Beijing, overpowered Viktorija Tomova in straight sets.

She lost just three games as she claimed her 47th win of the year. With this hot streak, she must be confident of claiming back-to-back WTA 1000 titles. Gauff’s form in the last two weeks has seen her claw her way back up to third in the WTA standings.

The 20-year-old has won twice against Kostyuk with both wins coming on hard courts.

Marta Kostyuk defeated Gauff on clay in Stuttgart back in April to avoid going 3-0 down in this fixture. She will now hope to tie this series with victory here.
