Fourth seed Cori Gauff will take on unseeded Magda Linette in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Wuhan Open. These two will clash on Friday and below is our prediction for the match.

Cori Gauff is in great shape and will seek to extend the same here. The American has won her last eight matches and will set a new career-winning record if she ends up the Wuhan champion.

Having won more recently at the China Open, stacking your chips in favour of the 20-year-old wouldn’t be far-fetched. The world number three has won both of her matches here in straight sets.

She defeated Marta Kostyuk by the loss of five games in the last round to improve her record to 49-15. Gauff defeated Linette three years ago at the US Open in their only encounter to date.

Magda Linette is yet to lose a set in Wuhan as well. She defeated eighth seed Daria Kasatkina to set up this showdown with Gauff. The Pole has been in fine form in China and has won five of her last six fixtures.

One of those wins was against Jasmine Paolini. Though having an inconsistent run on hard courts with an 11-14 record thus far, Linette has had an overall strong year.

She has won 30 matches, resulting in a title in Prague and a runner-up finish in Rouen. Advancing to this round has propelled her six places up, to 39th in the live ranking.

The winner from this quarter-final pairing will play Aryna Sabalenka, Yulia Putintseva, Magda Frech or Beatriz Haddad Maia next.
