Top seed Cori Gauff is on the verge of another Auckland Open final but will have to battle fourth seed Emma Navarro first. The two compatriots will battle in the semifinals with the winner taking on either Elina Svitolina or Wang Xiyu in the final. Cori Gauff is the Auckland defending champion and will be eager to at the very least make the final. She has been exceptional in her return here and has won her three matches without dropping a set. The American exquisitely defeated eighth seed Varvara Gracheva in the last round and lost just two games. She will be hoping another triumph down under propels her to another monster campaign like the last one. Gauff won four titles last year including a maiden major title with her US Open triumph. She is currently ranked third in the WTA.

Emma Navarro was in terrific form over the last year and has carried that momentum here. She finished the year with 22 wins in her final 26 fixtures. Though playing predominantly in the lower levels, Navarro ended the year ranked 31st in the world, a career-high. The American has picked up from where she left off and has dropped only one set in three matches here. This was in the first round against Linda Fruhvirtova. In her last two fixtures, she has lost a combined 10 games. The majority of those came in the last round as she defeated seventh seed Petra Martic by the loss of seven games. Navarro has in her career compiled a 41-36 record on hard courts.
