Top seed Cori Gauff is through to yet another Auckland Open final and will battle second seed Elina Svitolina for the title. This is the second time that these two players are squaring off in their careers. Cori Gauff won the title here last season and will be eager to defend it. Her rise to yet another final indicates that chances of back-to-back victories are high. The American, who started the campaign in the first round, is yet to drop a set here. In her last three matches, she hasn’t lost more than four games in a match. Gauff defeated compatriot and fourth seed Emma Navarro by the loss of four games in the semifinals. She will be hoping another triumph here propels her to another trophy-laden campaign like last year. Gauff rose to a career-high ranking of world number three last season after winning all four finals she contested.

Elina Svitolina defeated Gauff in the second round at the Australian Open back in 2021. This was their first and only encounter. She will hope for a similar outcome but the player she played then isn’t the one she is set to come up against. The Ukrainian hasn’t been flawless in her run to the final like Gauff and has twice relinquished a set. Both times she was forced to come from behind with the most recent being against Wang Xiyu in the semifinals. Svitolina knows how to maneuver in tour finals and has won 17 titles in the 21 finals she has contested in her career. Advancing to the final has bumped the former world number three two places up into 23rd place in the WTA.
