Both of these players are in the last eight at Roland Garros for the first time. Nor have either Cori Gauff or Barbora Krejcikova reached a Grand Slam semi-final, so someone will have a lot to celebrate on Wednesday. 17-year-old Gauff is the 24th seed with her opponent unseeded, the winner takes on either Iga Swiatek or Maria Sakkari. Gauff has been in great form on clay with a semi-final in the Rome Masters and then victory in Parma. The American keeps climbing up the rankings and a win here will take her into the top 20 for the first time. In 2020, Gauff beat ninth seeded Johanna Konta before losing in round two. This year has seen her get to the last eight without dropping a set. Wins have come against Krunic, Wang, Brady and Jabeur with only five games  being dropped in the third and fourth rounds.

Barbora Krejcikova is one of the busiest players at Roland Garros. Not only is she doing well in the singles but already through to the semi-finals in the doubles. The Czech used to best known for her doubles exploits and has won the title at Roland Garros. This year has seen her climbing the singles rankings, she's 33rd at the moment but will be a top 30 player after her performance in this tournament. Wins have come against Kristyna Pliskova, 32nd seed Ekaterina Alexandrova, fifth seeded Elina Svitolina and Sloane Stephens. Only 12 games have been lost in her last three rounds. Gauff can get the win here but it may well go to three sets.
