Columbus Blue Jackets vs Ottawa Senators Prediction & Betting Tips - NHL

Two underachieving franchises clash early on Saturday morning, as the Columbus Blue Jackets host the Ottawa Senators. The Senators currently sit bottom of the Atlantic division with 16 points and the Jackets hold up the entire Metropolitan with 18, so both squads will consider this as a winnable game. They are yet to meet this season, last taking one another on in April when the Blue Jackets were 4-3 overtime winners. The Senators have played fewer games than anyone else in the league after their trip to Europe, which has made this a bit of a stop and start season for them. They have been scoring at a smart clip of almost 3.5 goals per game, but they are also shipping them at the same rate at the other end.
One of the potential stories is the return of goalie Joonas Korpisalo to Ohio. He spent seven and a half seasons as a Blue Jacket and now finds himself a Senator. One win away from 100 in his career, for that to potentially come in his old home rink could fire up the Sens. The Blue Jackets have had Elvis Merzlikins carrying the load in net. He has a goals against average north of 3.10 which does not tell the whole story. He has played well of late, the issue coming from the sheer volume of shots his defence has been allowing in front of him. A heavy defeat for the Senators, 5-0 at home to the Florida Panthers, will see them arrive as a wounded animal which has the potential to make them dangerous but they are going to have to play an awful lot better than they did on Monday. The Blue Jackets lost 4-2 against the Montreal Canadians midweek but they can bounce back here after recent wins over the Boston Bruins and New Jersey Devils who are far superior teams to Ottawa.
