Two of the NHL’s top teams face off at the Ball Arena in Colorado as the Avalanche host the Seattle Kraken for this Sunday night Western Conference showdown. The Avalanche will be hoping to bounce back after back-to-back defeats following their most recent 7-3 away loss to the Stars on Saturday. It’s a quick turnaround for Colorado as they’ll now be faced with playing on consecutive nights as they return back home. The defending Stanley Cup champions currently sit fourth in the Central division with their record of 34 wins, 21 losses and five overtime defeats for a points total of 73. While they may not catch the first-place Stars, who they trail by eight points, the Aves are in a fairly strong position to make the playoffs. The Avalanche are only one point behind the third-place Jets at 74 points and currently hold a five point lead over Nashville for the second and final Wild Card spot.
Seattle, on the other hand, currently possess one of the three division playoff qualification spots as it sits third in the Pacific division. The Kraken has amassed a record of 35 wins, 21 losses and six overtime defeats to put them on a points total of 76. They are even on points with fourth-place Edmonton in a battle that is likely going to come down to the final days of the season for the third and final playoff spot. Seattle comes into this game on a three game winning streak following a 4-2 away win against Columbus. It was the Kraken’s third consecutive road win and they will look to go a perfect 4-0 on this four game road trip with a win over the Avalanche. Seattle’s away record has been a huge lift to them this season as they continue to be one of the league’s best road teams. They’ve won 20 of their 32 away games this season.
