Colorado Avalanche vs Edmonton Oilers Prediction & Betting Tips - NHL
by Joseph King | in NHL Predictions
The Central-leading Colorado Avalanche take on the Pacific's second-place team the Edmonton Oilers at the Ball Arena on Tuesday. Both teams still have something significant to play for despite having both already qualified for the playoffs which should make for an entertaining spectacle. The Aves are looking to hold off the Dallas Stars, and to a lesser extent the third-place Wild, to secure the top seed in the Central division. Colorado and Dallas are even on points at 104 but the defending champion Avalanche have the advantage of an extra game in hand. The Avalanche also hold a two point lead over Minnesota who have two games remaining in the season compared to the Aves’ three games. Edmonton, meanwhile, still have a shot at chasing down Vegas for the top spot in the Pacific division. The Oilers have wrapped up second-place with a five point lead over the third-place Kings but will be eyeing the number one seed as the Oil currently trail the Golden Knights by two points with two games remaining.
The Aves come into this game on the back of a five game winning streak after having to battle back from two goals down to secure an eventual 5-4 overtime win against the Ducks on Sunday. Colorado is in fine goal scoring form as of late, lighting the lamp on 24 occasions over the last five games for an average of 4.80 goals scored per contest. They’ll have to be at their best here if they want to secure the two points as they face off against the NHL’s highest-scoring team in the Oilers. The Avalanche have been involved in a number of high-scoring games recently with their last five straight all producing over 6.5 goals.
The Oilers have been on a similarly hot run themselves, winning their last seven on the trot coming into this contest against the defending champions. Edmonton’s last game resulted in a 6-1 away win against San Jose. The performance was the latest in a string of extremely impressive defensive displays for a team known more for their exploits on the offensive side of the puck rather than the defensive side. The Oilers have now gone five straight games where they have held their opponents to a maximum of one goal. During that stretch, they also managed two shutouts, one of which came against the third-place Kings.

Our Colorado Avalanche vs Edmonton Oilers Prediction
Edmonton have been on an excellent run and seemed to have turned a corner on the defensive end. However, the defending champion Avalanche certainly have the mental upper-hand having not lost to the Oilers in almost a full calendar year. With both teams playing good hockey at the moment, getting the hosts at above even money is too much value to pass up on in a game where they should arguably be favorites.
