38-year-old Richard Gasquet was given a wild card to play in this year’s Paris Masters. He begins his campaign against unseeded Flavio Cobolli. Here’s our match prediction.

Gasquet is down at 133rd in the rankings and has lost three of his last four matches. Last week saw him win a qualifier against Dusan Lajovic before being beaten by Marton Fucsovics. We could be in for a long match with six of his last seven seeing a tie-break played.

He’s had one previous match against Cobolli. That was on the Challenger Tour last year with Gasquet winning but it was played on clay. 

World number 32 Flavio Cobolli is only two places below his career-high. The Italian lost in round two of last week’s tournament in Vienna. He was beaten by second seed Alex de Minaur, retiring in the second set.

Three of his last four matches have seen a tie-break played, so a side bet on one here looks a possible winner. His best recent performance was reaching the last eight of the China Open in Beijing at the end of September with a win over Alexander Bublik.

We tip him to get a win over Gasquet to set up a second round match against either 11th seed Tommy Paul or Adrian Mannarino.
