Eighth seed Ons Jabeur is through to the French Open fourth round where she is set to play unseeded Clara Tauson. The winner of this first career meeting between these two will play Cori Gauff or Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the quarter-finals. Clara Tauson is having the Roland Garros tournament of her life. The Dane has advanced to this round for the first time in what is her fourth appearance. She has already surpassed last year’s third-round finish. Tauson, who has compiled a strong 26-12 record alternating between the tour and challenger circuits, defeated Sofia Kenin in round three. She won in straight sets against the former French Open finalist to record her second 2-0 victory in this year’s edition. Tauson, who defeated former Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko in the third round, has won 14 of 17 matches on clay. Advancing to this round has propelled her seven places in the live ranking to 65th.

Ons Jabeur is one win away from equaling her best-ever finish at this major. A three-time Grand Slam finalist, Jabeur qualified for the French Open quarter-finals last season. The Tunisian is a magnificent clay court performer. It is therefore no surprise that she has recorded most of her wins this year on the surface. Jabeur has had a wobbly campaign struggling with fitness and form and has so far compiled a 9-9 record. Seven of her wins have come on clay though and a run to the last eight in Madrid is one of her highlights. The world number nine progressed to this round at the expense of Leylah Fernandez whom she defeated in straight sets. The match lasted close to two hours and saw her maintain her unbeaten record against the former US Open finalist.
