Second seed Barbora Krejcikova will on Monday begin her Tennis in the Land campaign with a first-round showdown with lucky loser Clara Tauson. The winner will advance to take on the wildcard Leylah Fernandez in the second round. Clara Tauson lost to Nadia Podoroska in straight sets in the final round of qualifying. This was the third loss in five outings on hard court. She has struggled on the surface but as she has a 59-25 career record on hard court, she will fancy her chances here. Tauson has compiled a 30-15 record in 2023 and has managed one title and another runner-up medal in the ITF circuit. She is currently ranked 90th in the live ranking after moving up two places.

Barbora Krejcikova is making her second appearance in this WTA 250 tournament. Last season in her debut she was eliminated in the second round as a first seed. The current world number 12 will hope for better tidings as she aims to build up momentum ahead of the US Open. She arrives in Cleveland after suffering a first-round exit in Cincinnati. This was her second loss on the trot and followed her second-round elimination at Wimbledon. But as she has defeated Tauson before in their only other encounter, she will be confident of getting back to winning ways here. The Czech number four defeated Tauson in straight sets at SW19 in 2021. Krejcikova has had a rocky campaign and has compiled a 25-14 record with 15 of those victories coming on hard court. Her form on hard court led her to her first WTA 1000 title which was achieved in Dubai.
