Second seed Elisabetta Cocciaretto and unseeded Clara Burel will on Sunday battle in the Lausanne Ladies Open final. This is only the second career tour final for both players. Burel is playing in her second final in Lausanne. She will hope to fare better than she did two seasons ago and win her first tour title. Burel is having a strong season and has compiled a 25-12 record thus far. Of her victories, 17 have come on clay and so too has her only title in 2023. Burel won in Montpellier in the ITF circuit at the start of July. The 22-year-old hasn’t fared that well in finals and has lost six of the 10 she has contested across all tiers. She also lost to Cocciaretto the first time they met, which was on clay a year ago. To make this final, Burel had to come from behind to outduel ninth seed Diane Parry. This has catapulted her up the live ranking into a new career high. Burel is currently ranked 61st thanks to a 23-place jump.

Elisabetta Cocciaretto defeated Burel in straight sets on her way to the Makarska Open final last season. She will hope for the same outcome as she also targets her first tour title. Unlike Burel, Cocciaretto hasn’t gone years without advancing to a tour final. She made it to the final in Hobart at the start of the year but was unfortunate to lose. The Italian would however win the San Luis Potosi Challenger in April for her first title of the year. This extended her dominance in finals played on clay. Seven of the eight titles that Cocciaretto has won in her career have come on the surface. To advance to this final, she defeated Anna Bondar in three sets and had to come from a set down to win. This was her 23rd win of the season and 13th on clay. She is now up to 31st in the live ranking, a new career high.
