Fourth seeded Bernarda Pera faces unseeded Clara Burel in the last eight of the Internationaux de Strasbourg. Pera is the second highest seed remaining in this clay court tournament. The winner of this match could face sixth seed Varvara Gracheva or the returning Elina Svitolina in the semifinal. Pera began this tournament ranked 38th in the world, six places below her career high 32nd achieved last month. The American can set a new high because winning this match can take her up to 31st. Pera is making only her second last eight appearance of the year. The other was four months ago in Hobart, New Zealand. Her clay court season hasn't gone too well with four wins and three defeats. So far in this tournament, the fourth seed has beaten unseeded Kimberly Burrell in straight sets.

Clara Burel will have the home fans cheering her on in this match. The French tennis player will probably need it as she began this tournament ranked 122nd. That's the same ranking that Burel began the year at. Her best ever position in the list has been 74th achieved last year. Her run to the last eight in Strasbourg has seen her rise to 104th and beating Pera will take her back into the top 100. Her best results this year have been on the ITF circuit with a quarter final in Grenoble. It's gone well in Strasbourg though and fifth seeded Sorana Cirstea was beaten in round one. That was followed by a win over Kaia Kanepi. Those two matches have included two tie-breaks and a couple of 7-5 sets. A bet on a tie-break in this match looks a reasonable wager to place but we go for Pera to get the win.
