Unseeded players Christopher O'Connell and Jiri Vesely will on Friday battle in the second round at Wimbledon. The winner of this match will play the winner between 12th seed Cameron Norrie and unseeded Christopher Eubanks. Christopher O'Connell defeated qualifier Hamad Medjedovic in four sets to book this round. It was his first main draw win here and took his record for the season on grass to three wins in six matches. The Australian is having a rocky season and has managed 22 wins which is just one more match than he has lost. O’Connell is currently placed 73rd in the live ranking.

Jiri Vesely also won his first-round match in four sets. The Czech, playing with a protected ranking, defeated 22nd seed Sebastian Korda for his third win of the season. This was his first of the season on grass in three outings on the surface. He is now up a whopping 79 places to 449th in the live ranking. Vesely was out for nine months before he played his first round match of the season at the French Open. He is gradually working towards his match fitness and his win over Korda suggests he is slowly getting there. Vesely has twice made it in the fourth round at the All England Club. Last season he suffered a third-round elimination.
