Wild card Christopher O'Connell bids to make it into the last four of the Adelaide International. Standing in his way is the third seed Sebastian Korda who is on another good run down under. The winner of this match will take on either second seed Nicolas Jarry or seventh seeded Jiri Lehecka for a place in the final. O'Connell was ranked 71st when this warm-up tournament for the upcoming Australian Open began. He's up to 65th in the live rankings but that's still below his career high of 53rd. The 29-year-old started the new year in the Brisbane Invitational but lost in round one to fellow Australian Alexei Popyrin in three sets with the last two both going to tie-breaks. It's gone better for him in Adelaide with wins over qualifier Arthur Rinderknech and unseeded Alexander Shevchenko.

Sebastian Korda has fond memories of Australia after reaching an Adelaide International final last year, losing to Novak Djokovic. The 23-year-old is 27th in the live rankings, four places below his career high. The American has had two previous meetings with O'Connell. Both were in 2020 and played on the Challenger Tour. Korda won the one played on an outdoor hard court (the surface this tournament is being played on) and only lost two games. 2024 didn't start well for him with a straight sets loss to Yannick Hanfmann in Brisbane. Korda has only had to play one match so far in Adelaide and beat unseeded Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets. We go for Korda to get a win against O'Connell.
