Chicago Blackhawks vs New York Islanders Prediction & Betting Tips - NHL

The 13-29-2 Chicago Blackhawks will welcome the 19-15-10 New York Islanders to the United Center on Saturday morning. This will be the second half of a back-to-back situation for the Blackhawks who will be in action at the Buffalo Sabres the day before. They lost Connor Bedard in a game with the New Jersey Devils on January 5 and have scored a single goal in each of their last four outings. They were not prolific prior to the Bedard injury by any means but without their young star, they have regressed further. The defence has stepped up in that time however and they have cut down on the volume of pucks going in at the other end. Petr Mrazek has played a big role in that between the pipes, his last three starts have all been excellent despite taking a couple of losses. They will need him to continue in that sort of form if they are to pick up results with a string of injuries that would stop any team in its tracks.
Things have not gone well to start 2024 for the Islanders, just 2-6 this calendar year. This will be the final leg of a four-game road swing for them and they will be looking forward to getting back home after going 0-3 so far with a record of 1-6 in their last seven away from UBS Arena. They have looked toothless in front of goal on this trip, scoring just three times in those three games, though they did at least show a touch more when losing 2-4 to the Winnipeg Jets. An empty net goal stretched the winning margin for the Jets in a game where the Islanders were in contention throughout. That was very different to being shut out by the Minnesota Wild the time before in one of their worst efforts of the campaign. They will see this as a game to get back on the right side of the ledger against a battered and bruised Blackhawks team.
