It’s the Indian Premier League’s El Clasico as two of the most successful IPL teams, the Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians, start their 2025 campaign on Sunday. This is match #3 of this IPL season and will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, with our prediction favouring a home win.
These two teams have won five titles each. In the last campaign, Chennai finished fifth, losing out on a playoff chance due to net run rate. Mumbai finished 10th, the second time in three seasons that they were the worst team.
Chennai went for some experienced faces in the auction, bringing back Ravichandran Ashwin, Sam Curran, and Vijay Shankar. Rahul Tripathi and Deepak Hooda also join the team as they aim for career redemption, while MS Dhoni continues to be the biggest influence.
A settled squad and a team that is suited to the slow and spinning track at Chennai give the Super Kings an edge over their rivals.
Mumbai will be led by Suryakumar Yadav, as Hardik Pandya is suspended for this match. The biggest absence is that of Jasprit Bumrah, still recovering from his back injury.
Mitchell Santner is a great addition to the playing XI, but with no recognised Indian spinner, they may struggle here.
