Fourth seeded Danielle Collins has a promising draw in the ATX Open in Austin. The American faces unseeded Caty McNally in the last 16 with the winner up against either Anna Kalinskaya or Coco Vandeweghe in the quarter finals. Both of those are unseeded and the only other seed in the bottom half of the draw is eighth seeded Marta Kostyuk. Collins began this week ranked 38th. That's a drop from 11th in January but then the 29-year-old lost in the last 32 of the Australian Open after reaching the final in 2022. Collins is bidding to reach only her second quarter final of the new year. The other was in the second Adelaide International. Recent weeks have seen her win just one of her four matches. That win came against Elise Mertens but her losses include one to Iga Swiatek in which only one game was won by her. It was a bit of a struggle for Collins in the first round of this ATX Open. The first set against Magdalena Frech was lost on a tie-break but she battled back to win the next two sets for the loss of six games.

Caty McNally began this tournament ranked a career high 75th in the world. The American is better known for her doubles skills and is 19th on that ranking list. McNally is up to 72nd in the live rankings and could rise three more places if beating Collins. The 21-year-old made a slow start to the new year with only one win in her first three matches. Better form was shown in the Merida Open last week where she reached the semi-finals and had a win over then world number 42 Lin Zhu. In Austin, McNally beat qualifier Ashlyn Krueger in straight sets in the first round. Collins can put her experience to good use and get a win over her opponent.
