20th seed Marin Cilic bids to reach his first Grand Slam final since 2018. He takes on the eighth seed Casper Ruud for a place in Sunday's final against either Rafael Nadal or Alexander Zverev. Cilic was as high as third in the world four years ago but began this event in 23rd. His run to the last four has seen him climb to 17th in the live rankings and a win over Ruud will see him go up to 15th. This is his first semi-final at Roland Garros after two previous quarter finals. He had a tough match in the last eight and it'll be interesting to see how much that has taken out of him at the age of 33. Cilic had to go all the way to a tie-break in the final set to defeat seventh seeded Andrey Rublev. That followed a win over Daniil Medvedev in the last 16. He's had two previous matches against Casper Ruud but has lost both of them. One was in Rome last year on clay when being beaten in straight sets.

Casper Ruud began the French Open ranked eighth in the world. He's now up to seventh in the live rankings and reaching the final will take him up to sixth. The past three years had seen Ruud knocked out in the third round at Roland Garros. He's not just got past that round this year but has made it to his first ever Grand Slam semi-final. His previous best was th fourth round at the 2021 Australian Open. He's beaten two seeds in this tournament so far with victories over both Lorenzo Sonego and Hubert Hurkacz. He defeated unseeded Holger Rune in four sets in his quarter final. He can be backed to win this match but it may take four or five sets for him to do so.
