Eighth seed Casper Ruud and 28th seed Christopher Eubanks will play each other at the Shanghai Masters third round on Sunday. Casper Ruud beat Eubanks the last time they met, which was last season at Indian Wells. The win saw him tie the series at 1-1 and he will be confident of back-to-back victories, especially due to his current form. The Norwegian defeated Yoshihito Nishioka in straight sets in the last round to secure his fourth win in five matches. His 34th win of the season and 10th on hard court, moved him up one place to eighth in the live ranking. Ruud, who is making his Shanghai debut, has won one title and also managed another runner-up finish at Roland Garros.

Eubanks has struggled in recent weeks and has managed only two wins in his last six fixtures. The American had to come from a set down to defeat unseeded Yannick Hanfmann in three sets in the second round. He will hope to be as resilient against a player he defeated the first time they met five seasons ago. Despite his struggles, Eubanks has had an impressive season and is on course to break his record for most wins in a year. He won 43 matches last season and has so far managed 39 victories this term. His form this year has seen him win his first ever tour title which came on grass in Mallorca. The American also made it to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon and in Miami. He is currently ranked 31st in the live ranking and has won 24 of 39 matches on hard courts. The winner of this third meeting between the two will play either Dusan Lajovic or Fabian Marozsan next.
