Third seeded Carlos Alcaraz takes on the fifth seed Casper Ruud in the US Open final. It's not just the title they are fighting it out for, the winner of this match will become the new world number one. If it's Alcaraz, he will be the youngest ever to top the ATP tour rankings. The Spaniard is in his first ever Grand Slam final but is bidding to make it five tournament wins in 2022. He has had a tough route to this final with each of his last three matches in this tournament going to a final set. This is the third time he's faced Ruud and Alcaraz won both of those meetings. The most recent was in the Miami Masters final this year (played on a hard court) with Alcaraz winning in straight sets.

Casper Ruud is in his second Grand Slam final of the year. He lost to Rafael Nadal in the Roland Garros title decider and now hopes to go one better in New York. He will climb to number one in the rankings if beating Alcaraz and will the first Norwegian world number one. He's also had to battle hard to get to his first US Open final. Tommy Paul took him to five sets and Ruud also dropping sets against van Rijthoven and Moutet and in his semi-final Karen Khachanov. Alcaraz looks to be in the better form, go for him to win this final.
