Caroline Wozniacki, wildcard, and world number 433 Jennifer Brady, will on Friday meet at the US Open third round. Caroline Wozniacki is playing at Flushing Meadows for the first time in four years. The two-time US Open finalist last took to the court here in 2019. A former Australian Open champion, Wozniacki came out of retirement in June and played her first Singles match last month in Montreal. She has played five matches, all on hard court, and has won three times. Her latest victory was a 2-0 success over 11th seed Petra Kvitova. Wozniacki is yet to drop a set at Flushing Meadows. The former world number one is up a massive 310 places to 313th in the live ranking.

Jennifer Brady has also returned to the tour this year after a long hiatus. The American had been away for two years before she made her return in July in Granby in the ITF circuit. Brady’s time away was due to an injury to her knee at the 2021 Cincinnati Open. She played her first tour match in Washington and has now played nine matches in total in 2023. All have been on hard court with five ending in victory. Brady, a former US Open semifinalist, defeated 24th seed Magda Linette in three sets in the last round. The win allowed the former world number 13 to move up 174 places to 259th in the live ranking. Brady’s last appearance here was back in 2020 where she recorded her best-ever finish by making it to the last four. The winner here will next play either sixth-seed Cori Gauff or 32nd-seed Elise Mertens.
