The 2023 WTA US Open enters the round of 16 with unseeded Caroline Wozniacki taking on sixth-seed Cori Gauff. The winner of this contest will advance to a quarter-final matchup against either top-ranked Iga Swiatek or 20th-seed Jelena Ostapenko. Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki will look to turn back the clock when she takes on one of the games brightest young stars. The one-time Grand Slam winner has made the final of this competition on two occasions, with the latest occurring nearly a decade ago in 2014. The 33-year-old Wozniacki made it past Prozorova, 11th-ranked Petra Kvitova and Jennifer Brady to advance to this stage. Wozniacki recently returned from retirement in August of this year after spending more than three years away from the game. Since returning, she’s now won four of her six matches. The Dane has excelled on hard courts throughout her career where she possesses a 70% winning mark. Of her 670 total career wins, 406 have come on hard surfaces.

Cori Gauff is looking to continue her excellent 2023 with another deep run. A win here would mean her second consecutive year making it to the quarter-final of the US Open. It would also signify the ninth tournament in 2023 alone that Gauff has made it to at least the final eight. The 19-year-old American has simply been on fire this calendar year, amassing an astonishing record of 42 wins and only 13 losses. Not only that but Gauff has looked nearly unstoppable on hard courts this year where she has managed an 83.8% winning mark. Gauff made it past Siegemund, Andreeva and 32nd-ranked Mertens to advance to this stage of the competition. The American was put to the test in two of her three US Open matches, having to battle back from a set down. The most recent was against Mertens in the third round where Gauff would go on to dominate the third and final set and win by a score of 6-0.
