World number 51 Anna Blinkova and the wildcard Caroline Wozniacki will face off next at the San Diego Open. They will square off in the first round with the winner taking on either Dayana Yastremska or Caroline Dolehide next. Caroline Wozniacki makes her tour return after a more than month-long break. The former world number one, who is slowly easing back to competitive tennis after a lengthy hiatus, last played at the Australian Open. She has had a slow start to the year and has won just one of the three matches she has played. This was a first-round duel with Magda Linette in Melbourne. She took the first set before Linette was forced to retire in the second set while down 2-0. Wozniacki returned to the tour last year after spending almost four years away as she became a mother. She won four of seven matches with the majority coming in her run to the fourth round at Flushing Meadows. The 33-year-old has moved up three places to number 203 in the live ranking.

Anna Blinkova hasn’t had a lengthy time away from the tour but is also struggling to get going this year. The Russian has played eight matches so far and has lost five times. Two of her wins have come on hard courts and so too have three of her defeats. Having taken a three-week break since her last outing, the 25-year-old will hope to have reenergized. Blinkova was eliminated in the second round in Cluj in her last match. Her best result so far was a third-round finish in Melbourne which is also her best-ever result at the major. She is currently up one place in the live ranking to number 50.
