Caroline Garcia faces Lulu Sun in round one of the Abu Dhabi Open. These players have two things in common. Both are unseeded for this outdoor hard court tournament and neither have won a match this year. Here's our match prediction.

Garcia is currently down at 76th in the live rankings but was 21st this time last year. The French player struggled for consistency in 2024 but did reach the Guadalajara Open semi-finals last September.

Her quarter-final win in that tournament is the last match Garcia won. Her only event since then was this year's Australian Open, losing to Naomi Osaka in round one. 

Lulu Sun is 45th in the live rankings but her last victory was back in August 2024. Since reaching the Monterrey final six months ago, the New Zealander has lost seven successive matches.

This year got off to a poor start for her when losing to Rebecca Marino in the Auckland Classic. The losses continued with a three-set loss to Sofia Kenin in Hobart after winning the first set.  The Australian Open was a disaster with a first round loss to Danka Kovinic who was ranked 1289th.

Her most recent defeat came in Linz when being beaten by Sara Sorribes Tormo. We tip Garcia to win this match.
