Caroline Garcia vs Camila Osorio Prediction & Betting Tips - WTA Rome
by Steve Ashfield | in Tennis Predictions
Fifth seeded Carolina Garcia takes on qualifier Camila Osorio in the third round of the Italian Open. The winner of this match will face seeded oppositon in the next round. That'll be either 12th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia or 17th seeded Magda Linette. Garcia is the third highest seed remaining in this outdoor clay court tournament after the shock exits of Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula earlier this week. The French player began this week ranked fourth in the world and a couple more wins can see her move past Pegula into third place. Garcia would love a deep run in Rome as this is the last tournament before Roland Garros. Two finals have been reached by Garcia this year. Both ended in defeat to lower ranked players and were on a hard court surface. This is her third clay court tournament of the year. Garcia reached the last eight of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix but was beaten by Anastasia Potapova after winning the first set. This week has seen her beat unseeded Ana Bogden but it took her three sets to do so, losing the second before a 7-5 win in the final set. The pair have only met once before with Garcia winning for the loss of only four games in Lyon this year but that was on a hard court.
Camila Osorio caused a shock in the last round when beating the 29th seed Petra Martic in straight sets. The Colombian began this tournament ranked 100 but that's well below her career-high of 33rd achieved in April 2022. This run to the third round in Rome has taken her up to 88th in the live rankings. The 21-year-old had to win two matches to qualify for the main draw and did so without losing a set. That took her into a first round match against Varvara Gracheva and won in three sets (middle set lost) with two tie-breaks being won by the qualifier. Then came that win over Martic to set up this match with the fifth seed and this is her first time in round three of this tournament after reaching round two last year. Osorio has had success on clay in the past with one WTA event won and three on the lower tours. Garcia looks too experienced for her and can make it into round tour.
