Caroline Dolehide faces fellow American Peyton Stearns in the Guadalajara Open first round. The winner of this match will take on either ninth seed Beatriz Haddad Mai or Danielle Collins in round two. Dolehilde is 111th in the rankings and will want to do better than in San Diego last week. The 25-year-old lost in the first qualifying round of the San Diego Open, being beaten by Louisa Chirico in straight sets. That was her third straight loss with no wins since beating Alana Smith, who was ranked outside the top 500 at the time. Most of her success this year has been on the ITF circuit with a title win on clay in May. The previous month had seen her reach a semi-final in Charleston where she lost in straight sets to Peyton Stearns but that was on clay and this is a hard court event.

Peyton Stearns is a career high 43rd in the world rankings. The American will be looking to build on her run to the last 16 of the US Open where she won three matches and then lost to Marketa Vondrousova. Stearns won the first set in that match but then only won five games in the next two sets against the Wimbledon champion. The 21-year-old has also had success on the ITG circuit this year but did reach the last eight of the hard court ATX Open and the semi-finals of the Dow Tennis Classic. Stearns can continue her good form and win this match.
