A potentially exceptional game in prospect on Friday morning as the 33-17-5 Carolina Hurricanes host the 36-15-4 Florida Panthers. This is a rematch of the Eastern Conference Finals from last season which ended in the Canes getting swept. Their sole meeting this season also went the way of the Panthers, 5-2 back in November. The Canes have been in great form of late winning eight of their last 10, they will need that to continue against a team who has had their measure. Sebastian Aho leads the Canes with 59 points this season and he's had a solid time of things in his career against the Panthers, notching up 28 points in 27 games. As a team they have stepped up defensively, conceding 19 in their last 10 games.
The Panthers are flying at present, winning 10 of their last 11 games and are on a franchise record of 11 straight wins on their travels. The Ottawa Senators gave them plenty to handle on Wednesday morning, but the Sens had won in Tampa Bay the night before and are playing their best hockey of the season. There are 10 players this season who have scored 30+ goals in the league, but only the Panthers have two of those in Sam Reinhart and Carter Verhaeghe. On top of their excellent offence, they have conceded the second-fewest goals in the league with some solid goaltending as well. Only 33 goalies in the history of the sport have played more minutes than Sergei Bobrovsky who is rapidly approaching 40,000 minutes in his career. Already 16th in wins, his presence in the net has been solid all season for the Panthers.
