Sebastian Korda takes on qualifier Carlos Taberner in the first round in Barcelona. The winner of this match has a tough second round tie awaiting them with third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime the scheduled opponent. Korda began this week as the world number 37, that's 57 places above his opponent. Korda made a good start to the European clay court season with a run to the last 16 in Monte Carlo. That included beating Carlos Alcarez before losing in two tight sets to Taylor Fritz. His best performance this year has been reaching the quarter finals of the Delray Beach Open. On clay, Korda has got to the fourth round at Roland Garros and last year won the Emilia-Romagna Open.

Carlos Taberner was the second seed in qualifying for this tournament. He had little problem getting into the main draw and lost only five games in his two qualifiers. Taberner didn't do so well last week when losing to Joao Sousa in the first qualifying round in Monte Carlo, winning just two games.He won eight clay court tournaments on the ITF/Challenger Tour including one in Italy last month and three last year. On the main tour it's not gone so well though and he's never made it past the first round of the French Open in three attempts. Back Korda to get the win here to set up that match with the third seed.
