To book this round with Alcaraz, the American defeated unseeded Ugo Humbert by the loss of seven games. This was his 37th win in 56 matches this year. Paul has been at his best on hard court. He has compiled a 22-8 record on hard court with one of his two tour finals thus far coming on the surface. Coupling this with his two wins against Alcaraz on hard court, Paul will be confident of extending his advantage in this fixture. Paul was unable to build on the momentum of eliminating a top seed in Toronto and was eliminated in his net match. The 26-year-old is currently ranked 13th in the live ranking which is a career high. A win on Thursday can see him move up to 12th.
