Carlos Alcaraz vs Tommy Paul Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Cincinnati Open
by Daniel Ngulu | in Tennis Predictions
Top seed Carlos Alcaraz and 14th seeded Tommy Paul meet yet again in August 2023, this time in the Western & Southern Open. The winner of this third-round tie will book a quarterfinal showdown with either Stan Wawrinka or Max Purcell, both of whom are unseede. Alcaraz saw his Canadian Open campaign ended in the quarterfinals by Paul last week and will be eager to exert revenge here. That match in Toronto was the second between the two in 2023 and the third in this series. Alcaraz claimed his first win over Paul in Miami in March. That win is one of his 50 tour-leading victories this season. The Spaniard has been in absolutely devastating form in 2023 and has lost just five times. He has advanced to seven finals thus far and has won six titles including a Grand Slam and two Masters 1000 titles. This should have the world number one confidant of triumphing in Cincinnati where he is a one-time quarterfinalist. Alcaraz began his third appearance here by defeating the qualifier Jordan Thompson in three sets.
Tommy Paul has been in superb form in what is his fifth main draw appearance in Cincinnati. He has won the last two rounds without dropping a set. To book this round with Alcaraz, the American defeated unseeded Ugo Humbert by the loss of seven games. This was his 37th win in 56 matches this year. Paul has been at his best on hard court. He has compiled a 22-8 record on hard court with one of his two tour finals thus far coming on the surface. Coupling this with his two wins against Alcaraz on hard court, Paul will be confident of extending his advantage in this fixture. Paul was unable to build on the momentum of eliminating a top seed in Toronto and was eliminated in his net match. The 26-year-old is currently ranked 13th in the live ranking which is a career high. A win on Thursday can see him move up to 12th.
