Novak Djokovic last lost a singles match at Wimbledon six years ago. That was in the last eight against Thomas Berdych when retiring in the second set. Since then, he’s won 34 matches in a row and one more victory will again make him Wimbledon champion. It’ll also mean he’s won his last four Grand Slam titles and make it three this year. Losing finals in Grand Slams doesn’t happen often for the Serb. He’s lost just two of the last 12 he’s played and seven out of eight Wimbledon finals have been won. This year has seen him drop two sets on his way to this final. The first was in his fourth round match against Hubert Hurkacz. Then in the quarter finals he lost the first set to Andrey Rublev. The semifinals saw him beat Jannik Sinner in straight sets and that saw him play his sixth tie-break of the tournament. He’s 1-1 in previous matches against Alcaraz with his win coming in this year’s Roland Garros final. Both those meetings were played on a clay court surface.

Carlos Alcaraz isn’t just bidding to win his first Wimbledon men’s singles title. Defeat to Djokovic will mean the Serb replaces him as world number one. Alcaraz has won one Grand Slam title with a win at the US Open last year. We all know his talents on hard courts and particularly clay but before this tournament had never got past round four at Wimbledon. The Spaniard has reached this title decider for the loss of only only two sets and he's only trailed in one match. That was in the fourth round when losing the first set to former finalist Matteo Berrettini. The last couple of rounds have produced straight sets wins over Holger Rune and Daniil Medvedev.
