Carlos Alcaraz vs Karen Khachanov Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Mutua Madrid Open
by Devesh Jaganath | in Tennis Predictions
Top seeded Carlos Alcaraz faces 12th seed Karen Khachanov in the Madrid Masters quarter finals. The Spaniard is hoping to make it back-to-back titles following his successful title defense in Barcelona last week. Alcaraz has already reached five tournament finals this season, losing only once in Rio to Cameron Norrie. Since then, Alcaraz followed up with an incredible performance at Indian Wells, defeating Daniil Medvedev, while in Barcelona, he looked formidable from the first match and was little troubled en route to retaining his title, beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets in the final. Alcaraz beat Alexander Zverev convincingly yesterday in the round of 16 matchup, which extended his already stellar record to 26-2 for the year and 16-1 on the clay. Against an opponent that he has beaten in the past, Alcaraz will be confident that he can reach yet another final four in this one. This is their third meeting and the other two were both won by Alcaraz and on clay which bodes well for this meeting on the outdoor clay courts of Madrid.
Ranked twelfth in the world and seeded 10th here in Madrid, Karen Khachanov will be hoping that he can go on to reach his first clay court semi-final appearance for the year, to go with the two he managed on the hard surface. The German’s best result to date came at the Australian Open, where he reached the semi-final before bowing out to Stefanos Tsitsipas. He also made it to the last four in Miami last month, but since stepping onto the clay, he’s found it a little more difficult. In Monte Carlo and Barcelona, Khachanov only managed round of 16 appearances, bowing out to Andrey Rublev and Daniel Evans, respectively. Here in Madrid, the Russian has made a good start, beating Roberto Bautista Agut and Thiago Monteiro in the earlier rounds before getting his revenge over Andrey Rublev in the last round. Khachanov is 6-2 on the clay surface this year, and while he was excellent against Rublev yesterday, he faces a different type of challenger in Alcaraz and may find it difficult to overcome an opponent that has bested him in the past.
