Carlos Alcaraz is only three wins away from successfully defending his Wimbledon title. The third seed faces 12th-seeded Tommy Paul in the quarter-finals. Next up for the winner will be a semi-final against either top seed Jannik Sinner or fifth-seeded Daniil Medvedev.

These two players are facing each other for the fifth time. It's 2-2 in their previous meetings and this is the first time they've met on a grass court. Three of their matches were played last year with Alcaraz winning two of them.

The Spaniard won his two opening matches in this tournament in straight sets. He then had to come from two sets to one down to get past 29th seed Frances Tiafoe. Sunday saw him end the run of 16th seed Ugo Humbert, winning in four sets.

Now another American tries to dethrone the reigning champion. Tommy Paul is up four places in the live rankings to a career-high eigth. He's won one grass court tournament this year winning the Queen's Club title won by Alcaraz last year.

The American is in his first Wimbledon quarter-final. The first two rounds for him were a bit bumpy, especially when having to come from two sets to one down to beat qualifier Otto Virtanen in round two. He's had straight sets wins over Alexander Bublik and Roberto Bautista Agut since then.

Only once has Paul reached a Grand Slam semi-final. We believe that stat will remain after Alcaraz beats him in straight sets.
