30th seed Tomas Machac is in only his second Masters quarter-final. He has never reached a semi-final and takes on third seed Carlos Alcaraz in the last eight of the Shanghai Masters. Here's our match prediction.

Carlos Alcaraz is in top form at present and has won his last 12 matches. The run has seen him win the China Open in Beijing, where he beat world number one Jannik Sinner in the final. He's now second in the overall and ATP Race rankings.

The Spaniard has had few problems making it to the quarter-final of this hard court tournament. He's had wins over Juncheng Shang, Yibing Wu and in round three, Gael Monfils. The last two of his wins have both seen over 18.5 games played but he's yet to lose a set.

Tomas Machac has risen to 29th in the live rankings and that's his first time in the top 30. The Czech has a big week ahead of him as he has his 24th birthday on Sunday. He had to retire in two recent tournaments. That included a match against Alcaraz in the Davis Cup after the first two sets had been shared.

His most recent tournament went better with a run to the semi-finals in Tokyo.  That form has continued here with wins over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Alexander Vukic and in the last 16, the 11th seed Tommy Paul. Against both Fokina and Paul he had to come from a set down to get the win. We go for over 18.5 games in this match.
