Carlos Alcaraz - Novak Djokovic: Form Analysis
Novak Djokovic is in his tenth Wimbledon final and chasing his eighth men's singles title. That would equal the record number won by Roger Federer. It would also be a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title and a 99th tournament victory.
The Serb has only lost two of his nine previous finals, one of course last year when being beaten by Carlos Alcaraz in five sets. Not since 2015 has a player lost two successive men's singles finals at Wimbledon, the unsuccessful player on that occasion being Roger Federer.
This is the first final that Djokovic has reached this year.
It's July and the Serb is yet to win a tournament in 2024. His participation at this year's Grand Slam was in doubt due to the knee injury that forced him to withdraw from Roland Garros. He declared himself fit though and is again in the final.
He has only had to play five matches as his quarter-final opponent Alex de Minaur withdrew from their match. Djokovic has dropped sets in two of his matches with both Jacob Fearnley and Alexei Popyrin winning a set against him. Friday's semi-final saw him beat Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets.
Carlos Alcaraz trails Novak Djokovic 3-2 in previous meetings. The Spaniard (who was eight when Djokovic first won this title) has lost both of his matches against the Serb since winning last year's Wimbledon final.
It's not been the easiest of routes to the final for Alcaraz. He won his first two matches in straight sets but then had to go to five to get past Frances Tiafoe. Ugo Humbert also took a set off him in round four as did Tommy Paul in the quarter-finals.
Friday saw him in a tough match with Daniil Medvedev in a repeat of last year's semi-final. He lost the first set for the third time in four rounds but fought back to win the next three. We go for Alcaraz to win this match but both players to win a set.
