Top seed Carlos Alcaraz continues with his Argentina Open title defence and will take on third seed Nicolas Jarry in the semifinals. The winner will then battle either Facundo Diaz Acosta or Federico Coria for the title. Carlos Alcaraz is now only two wins away from defending the title he won here last season. He has been impeccable in his return to Buenos Aires, winning his two rounds without dropping a set. The Spaniard, who has so far compiled a 6-1 record, defeated the qualifier Andrea Vavassori in the quarterfinals. Alcaraz is yet to win a title this season. He suffered a disappointing quarterfinal exit in Melbourne, his first event of the year. Alcaraz will be seeking to reassume top spot in the ATP this season and winning this tournament will get him closer to doing so. The world number two defeated Jarry twice last season with one of those wins coming in the semifinals in Rio.

Nicolas Jarry is also having a strong campaign and has so far won six of nine matches. Two of his wins have come on clay. The Chilean, who has now moved up to 20th in the live ranking, advanced to the semis at the expense of Tomas Martin Etcheverry. Their quarterfinal tie ended prematurely before the third set as Etcheverry was forced to retire. Jarry, who has lost a set in both his matches here, had tied the contest by winning the second set. This is Jarry’s fifth appearance in Buenos Aires and before this season he had never gone past the first round. The 28-year-old is a strong clay court performer and has won almost 300 matches on the surface in his career.
