Top seed Carlos Alcaraz continues with his title defence at the Argentina Open and will battle the qualifier Andrea Vavassori next. The two will square off in the quarterfinals with the winner playing either Nicolas Jarry or Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the semifinals. Carlos Alcaraz got past the first hurdle of his title defence by defeating Camilo Ugo Carabelli 2-0 in the second round. It was his fourth successive straight sets win in Buenos Aires going back from last season. The Spaniard won the title here last year to set the foundations for another dominant tour campaign. He will be hoping for more of the same as he seeks his first title of the season. The current world number two has so far compiled a 5-1 record and is now making his switch to clay. He arrived in Buenos Aires after a disappointing quarterfinal elimination at the Australian Open.

Andrea Vavassori is having an impressive start to the year and has been one of the form players in the ATP. Alternating between the tour and challenger circuits, the Italian has so far compiled a 9-2 record. Four of his wins have come on clay where he is yet to be defeated. He is making his debut in this event and is now set to play in only his second-ever tour quarterfinal tie. The 28-year-old has won all his four matches here without dropping a set and defeated Laslo Djere in the last round. His success has catapulted him 15 places to 137th in the live ranking.
