Second seed Carlos Alcaraz will seek to put his recent struggles behind him when he battles seventh seed Alexander Zverev on Monday. The two have been pooled together in the Red Group of this year’s ATP Finals in Turin. Carlos Alcaraz has lost his last two matches which is the first time this has happened this year. The Spaniard, who has won the second most matches in 2023 with 63, suffered a shock defeat in his last outing. Alcaraz was defeated in straight sets in the second round at the Paris Masters by world number 39 Roman Safiullin. Before that, he had lost in the third round in Shanghai. The world number two is making his debut in the Men’s year-end championship. He has defeated Zverev three times in their six meetings with two of those victories recorded this year.

Alexander Zverev has won the only other time that he and Alcaraz have met on an indoor hard court. This was in the semifinals of his title triumph in Vienna two seasons ago. As he has had a good run on the surface this year, he will be confident of starting things off here with victory. Zverev, who has won 53 matches this season, has compiled a 6-4 record on indoor hard courts. The German is up one place to seventh in the live ranking. This is the highest he has ranked this season. Zverev is coming off a third-round finish at the Paris Masters. He has won two of the last five ATP Finals with the latest coming in 2021.
