Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz takes on unseeded Aleksandar Vukic in the second round at Wimbledon. The two players are fighting it out for the right to play either 29th seed Frances Tiafoe or unseeded Borna Coric in round three.

Alcaraz won this title last year and is defending all the points earned for doing so. That's why he has slipped a place to fourth in the live rankings. The Spaniard remains third in the ATP Live Race with only Sinner and Zverev ahead of him. 

He only played one grass court warm-up event this year. That was at Queen's Club where he won the title in 2023. It wasn't to be this year as he was beaten by Jack Draper in his second match in the tournament.

Alcaraz started the defence of his Wimbledon title on Monday. He beat the qualifier Mark Lajal in straight sets. This is his second match against Vukic and it was his opponent who won the first one but that was on clay in 2020 when Alcaraz was still a teenager.

Aleksandar Vukic reached the semi-finals at Eastbourne last week. That was unexpected after the Australian had to be reinstated into the main draw as a lucky loser. He'd been beaten by Yoshihito Nishioka in the qualifiers but later beat him in the main draw.

That run took Vukic to 69th in the latest rankings. Monday saw him defeat Sebastian Ofner (finalist in Mallorca last Saturday) but it took him five sets after losing the first. He's now 64th in the live rankings He also got to round two last year but we tip Alcaraz to win this in straight sets.
