Carlos Alcaraz vs Borna Ćorić Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Mutua Madrid Open
by Devesh Jaganath | in Tennis Predictions
The semi-final of the Mutua Madrid Open will get underway on Friday between Carlos Alcaraz and Borna Coric with the winner going on to meet either Jan-Lennard Struff or Aslan Karatsev in the final. The Spaniard is aiming for back-to-back titles following his successful title defense in Barcelona last week. Alcaraz is on his way to his sixth final appearance this season and has only lost once so far, in Rio, to Cameron Norrie. Since then, Alcaraz followed up with an incredible performance at Indian Wells, defeating Daniil Medvedev, while in Barcelona, he looked formidable from the first match and went on to overcome Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets in the final. Alcaraz beat Karen Khachanov fairly convincingly yesterday in the quarter-final to stretch his impeccable record to 27-2 for the year and 17-1 on the clay. Against an opponent that he has never faced in the past, Alcaraz will need to ensure that he does not step off the pedal here, or he may risk an unexpected exit.
Borna Coric has been dealing with a hip injury most of the year and has been some way from his best. Ranked 20th in the world, Coric came to Madrid following four first-round exits in his last four tournaments, two of which were on the clay in Monte Carlo and at the Srpska Open last month. However, the Croatian has worked extremely hard in this event and managed to pull off wins over Hubert Hurkacz, and an incredible three-set win against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina before seeing off lucky loser Daniel Altmaier in the quarter-final. Now with an overall record of 11-8 for the year and coming up against one of the best players in the world, Coric will need to produce the biggest upset of the tournament to reach his first final of the year in this one.
