Canada vs Italy Prediction & Betting Tips - Davis Cup

Italy take on defending champions Canada in Group A of the Davis Cup Finals Group stage. Also in this group (which is being played in Bologna, Italy) are Chile and Sweden. The top two countries go through to the knockout stages in November and it's Italy and Canada who are expected to fill those spots.  Matches are the best of three with two singles followed by a doubles. Canada won the Davis Cup last year but are without Felix Auger-Aliassime for the 2023 group stages. He's not been in good form this year but his absence still weakens the title holders. Their top ranked player is Denis Shapovalov who is 31st in th latest ranking list.  He's playing his first tournament since losing in the last 16 at Wimbledon in June. The next highest ranked singles player in the Canadian team is Gabriel Diallo who is 158th, followed by the more experienced Vasek Pospisil but he's currently 187th. None of their potential doubles players are ranked in the top 200 for that form of the game.

Italy have home advantage and despite absences, a much stronger squad. There's no Jannik Sinner or Matteo Berrettini but their three potential singles players are all currently in the top 50. Lorenzo Musetti is ranked 18th, Lorenzo Sonego 38th and Matteo Arnaldo 47th. They have a better doubles choice too with Andrea Vavassori and Simone Belleli 42nd and 43rd in those rankings. They should be able to win at least one of the two singles matches and with a far better doubles team, they can get the win over Canada.
