Hosts France will begin their Women’s Basketball campaign at the Paris Olympics in Group B against Canada on Monday. Ahead of their fourth meeting at the Olympics, here’s our preview and a prediction for the match.

Though they are underdogs in this match, Canada will be full of confidence of starting their tournament with a win. The North Americans have a recent strong record against France. They’ve won three of the last four matchups including the last two.

Canada won 59-45 the last time they faced off with France - at the 2022 World Cup. Coached by Victor Lapena, Canada had a shaky period preparing for this year’s Games. They lost two of their four friendly matches, both being against Spain who are also competing in Paris.

France carry the pressure of being the host nation. They are expected to go all the way and win their first Gold. One of five European nations at this year’s tournament, France are making their fifth Olympics appearance.

They had their best campaign in London 12 years ago as they won Silver. Les Bleues, who have never failed to qualify for the knockout rounds, secured Bronze in the last edition in Tokyo. Jean-Aime Toupane’s players have been in red-hot form and arrive for this match on an 11-game winning streak.

This run began at the EuroBasket tournament last year where they finished with the Bronze Medal. Before a shock loss to Belgium at the tournament, France had won 12 successive matches, meaning they’ve won 23 of their last 24 games. France defeated Canada all three times the nations faced off at the Olympics.
