Canada vs Australia Prediction & Betting Tips - Men's Olympic Tournament
by Kennedy Kechula | in Men's Olympic Tournament Predictions
Canada will next play Australia in a highly anticipated matchup in Group A in Men’s Basketball at the Paris Olympics. This group also features two strong European nations in the shape of Greece and Spain. Both Canada and Australia won in the opening round of matches and come here tied on two points ahead of this fixture set for Tuesday.
In this pool, Australia currently hold the edge in the battle for top spot, on points difference. Canada defeated Greece in a high-octane opening game while Australia saw off Spain, who are one of the favourites for a podium finish.
This will be the first Olympic Games match between these two nations since 2000 and in this preview we will offer predictions of the likely outcomes. In total, Canada and Australia have met at three previous Summer Games. Canada claimed victory each time and, unsurprisingly, are the bookies' favourites to win here again.

Canada - Australia: Form Analysis
Canada began their Olympics campaign with an entertaining 86-79 victory over Greece. Three players, RJ Barrett, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Dillon Brooks scored in double figures, Barrett leading the way with 23 points.
Jordi Fernandez’s men outrebounded the Giannis Antentokounmpo-led Greek team and also shot 41% from the field. They have now won six of their last seven matches and are on a three-game winning run. Coupling this impressive form with their dominance over Australia,
Canada will be confident of making it two wins in two in Group A. The North Americans’ squad is filled with an array of talent from the NBA. Ten of the 12-man roster play in the NBA. This has many believing that Canada can finish in the podium places just like they did at last year’s World Cup.
Australia rarely have it easy when facing Canada, going by their recent meetings.
Australia have struggled most times against Canada but in their most recent matchups, the Oceania representatives turned the tables. The Boomers have claimed all three of their wins in this fixture in the last four meetings.
All three wins came at the FIBA World Cup. Brian Goorijian’s men will be eager to replicate this recent dominance over Canada at the pinnacle of international sport. Australia, who are making their 14th successive Summer Games appearance, also had a tough opening round fixture.
Though they led for much of the game, Australia had a difficult time in denting Spain’s drive as they won 92-80. Five players scored in double-figures, with Jock Landale putting up a team-high 20 points and nine rebounds. Australia, who have now won their last four matches, also have a squad filled with NBA talent.

Canada & Australia Squad Analysis
Canada have no injury concerns going into the game with Australia. Jamal Murray, who has dealt with a calf issue since the NBA playoffs last season, was the biggest injury concern. He was, however, able to come off the bench against Greece and played 18 minutes.
Australia also came through unscathed against Spain and are likely to have Dante Exum back. The Dallas Mavericks man missed his country’s Olympic opener due to a finger injury. He has, however, been on the court in training and is expected to play a part against Canada or Greece later. Having Exum available is a big boost for an Australian team that is favored to make it to at least the semi-finals.

Our Canada vs Australia Prediction
Our prediction for Canada v Australia is for over 175.0 points to be scored in the match. This is one of the anticipated matchups of the group stages as the two nations are favorites for a podium finish in Paris. Both teams are riddled with offensive talent from the NBA and each team putting up at least 80 points here is very likely.
This therefore should be a high-scoring outcome as both nations are also not the most dominant defensive sides.
Canada vs Australia - Other Interesting Predictions
Canada to win.
