Canada vs Australia Prediction & Betting Tips - Davis Cup
by Steve Ashfield | in Tennis Predictions
Canada bid for the ATP and Davis Cup double. They won the now-defunct ATP Cup at the start of the year and now take on Australia in the Davis Cup final. The Canadians have never won this trophy but have had wins over Germany and Italy this week to reach the final. Felix Auger-Aliassime is their top ranked player and has won each of his last four Davis Cup singles matches. He also teamed up with Vasek Pospisil to win the deciding doubles match in their semi-final. The biggest worry Canada have is concerning the form of Denis Shapovalov. He's lost both his singles matches this week, being beaten by Jan-Lennard Struff and Lorenzo Sonego. Those two matches have seen three tie-breaks played.
Australia last won the Davis Cup in 2003 and may be wishing that Nick Kyrgios was playing. They have had wins this week over the Netherlands and Croatia to reach this final. Their top player is Alex de Minaur who is the world number 24 and has won both of his singles matches this week. He did have to go to a final set to defeat Botic van de Zandschlup in the last eight. He'll be taking on Auger-Aliassime and it was the Canadian who won their only match on the ATP Tour. Who will be the second singles player for Australia? In the quarter finals it was Jordan Thompson who won in three sets against Tallon Greikspoor. However, in the semi-final, it was Thanasi Kokkinakis who played and he lost in straight sets to Borna Coric. Thompson did play in the tie, he teamed up with Max Purcell to win the doubles decider in three sets. Kokkinakis is the world number 95 and his match against Shapovalov will be vital for both teams. Canada look to have the edge in the doubles and even if Shapovalov loses again, they can be backed to win the Davis Cup.
